IONM professionals collect, analyze and interpret data from your body's nervous system during your scheduled surgery. Prior to the start of the surgical procedure, small metal electrodes will be attached (with a mild adhesive or inserted just under the skin) to various parts of your body. Technologists will use these electrodes and computers to continuously monitor you and help identify the potential for injuries to your central and peripheral nervous system. Depending on the type of surgery scheduled this could include your head, arms, hands, legs, feet and/or face. IOM, in conjunction with Physicians Analytical Services, has the resources available to interpret any neurophysiological situation which may arise.
